2014 VP Parade

132nd Veiled Prophet Parade Will Be Marching to Forest Park in 2014

Saint Louis' grandest parade since 1878 will be carrying on the tradition in a new location

ST. LOUIS, Oct. 23, 2013 - The Veiled Prophets Organization today announced that the 132nd Veiled Prophet Parade will be marching through Forest Park in 2014. Saint Louis' grandest parade will take place the morning of July 4th by bringing tradition to the park that harkens back memories of the 1904 World Fair.

"We are thrilled to bring our parade to Forest Park," said Kenneth J. Mallin, the 2014 Grand Marshal of the V.P. Parade. "The park venue will allow us to showcase in new and different ways the history of the V.P. Parade, the artistry of our 18 hand-built floats, the excitement of over 750 costumed performers, and the community spirit of over 1,000 volunteers."

The celebration of the V.P. Parade in Forest Park will kick-off the evening before on July 3rd with the 2nd Annual Parade Town Party which is an evening of fun and revelry highlighted by live concerts, and a preview of some of the floats and balloons in the upcoming parade. Parade Town was newly unveiled last year and drew thousands from the Saint Louis region to celebrate the beginning of America's Biggest Birthday Party that starts the next morning with the V.P. Parade and continues the celebration of Fair Saint Louis.

The Freedom 4-Miler Run and the Family Fun Run will take place directly before the parade on the morning of July 4th. Last year the Freedom Run drew over 2,000 runners and estimates for 2014 are for over 5,000 runners making it quickly become of Saint Louis' premier running events.

Along with the hand crafted floats and soaring balloons, the V.P. Parade will once again host some of the greatest high school bands throughout the Midwest to compete for the 1776 Revolutionary War Snare Drum Traveling Trophy and over $10,000 in prizes.

The V.P. Parade has made some very positive and important chances since its inception. The original parade on October 8th, 1878 was held in the evening. In 1969, the V.P. Parade was changed from an evening parade to a morning parade and is now one of the largest Independence Day parades in the nation.

The V.P. Parade, Fair Saint Louis, Freedom 4 Miler, and the Family Fun Run will make the Saint Louis' 250th birthday in iconic Forest Park an event not to be missed.
